Wolves' Vice-President Collects OBE
Wednesday 11th June, 2008
Wolves' Vice-President and England cricket legend, Rachael Heyhoe Flint, has today picked up an OBE for services to cricket. She received the prestigious award from HRH Prince of Wales at a Buckingham Palace ceremony.
Rachael was the face of women's cricket for over a generation. She took over the captaincy of the England team in 1966 and remained unbeaten in six series. She was one of the first women admitted to the MCC and in 2004 she became the first woman elected to the full committee.
Speaking outside Buckingham Palace, Rachael said: "I'm thrilled and honoured to receive this award. My son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren have flown over from Singapore to be here today, so it's been a real family occasion. It's also my birthday today - what a fantastic present!"
A lifelong Wolves supporter, Rachael has fulfilled a number of important roles at Molineux, including a stint on the club's main board. More recently, Rachael has played a key role in establishing Wolves Aid, the club's official charity. It has been relaunched with £150,000 to distribute to Wolverhampton-based charities and community groups.
