Local charity receives £75,000 cheque

Chester-based Save the Family has been thrilled to receive a major funding award from The Morgan Foundation.

Edna Speed MBE, founder of homelessness charity Save the Family was the recipient of a cheque for £75,000 this morning from Steve Morgan OBE, Chairman and founder of The Morgan Foundation. The funds were raised at The Morgan Foundation inaugural Charity Golf Classic 2008 at Carden Park Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort in May.

The money will help the Save the Family, which provides accommodation and support to homeless families from throughout the North West and North Wales, to develop a new family accommodation facility on the outskirts of Chester.

The £3.6 million Cotton Hall Farm development at Cotton Edmunds, near Christleton, will include 26 family accommodation units as well as education and training facilities.

Edna stated: “The Morgan Foundation has offered major support to the charity over many years and as a result the charity has been able to expand and develop in a way that would have been impossible without Steve Morgan’s commitment and underpinning of a number of projects. We value the love and help of this Foundation and the charity will always be mindful of their generosity.”

Steve Morgan Launches Awards 2008

Steve Morgan is today launching The Morgan Foundation’s 2008 Entrepreneur Awards with over £150,000 of cash prizes and services on offer to the winners.

Following the huge success of last year’s inaugural awards, the awards have this year been extended to encompass businesses and entrepreneurs from the Wolverhampton area as well as from Merseyside, West Cheshire, Shropshire and North Wales who will have the opportunity to compete across five categories for a potentially major boost to their enterprise.

Designed to encourage a whole new generation of entrepreneurial role models, the return of the awards for 2008 were today being marked at a launch at Barclays Commercial Bank in Chapel Street in Liverpool.

With main sponsorship provided by Barclays Commercial, there are dual launches to this year’s award scheme, with today’s event following a similar one held at Molineux Stadium yesterday.

Having launched his business life by using a £5,000 loan from his father to help found one of the UK’s most successful house builders in Redrow, before moving on to a variety of property and leisure based businesses, Steve is now hoping to help similarly ambitious entrepreneurs and young businesses achieve their potential.

Steve explains: “I am delighted to announce that we are once again running the Entrepreneur Awards for 2008 and including the Wolverhampton area. The idea is to stimulate the idea of entrepreneurship whilst also providing some real financial encouragement. There was nothing like this around when I was starting out in business and it can really make a huge difference. I would urge any young business or entrepreneur to put together an application because last year’s winners have already proved just what a difference the prize money can provide to their business.”

Applications must be submitted by September 12 and those individuals or companies short-listed will be invited to an Awards Ceremony at Carden Park Hotel on November 20 where the winners will be announced.

Carden Park Hotel wins Sustainable Tourism Award
Fri, 06 Jun 2008

De Vere Deluxe hotel, Carden Park was honoured with the award for ‘Sustainable Tourism’ at the Chester & Cheshire Tourism awards on Friday 6th June.

This award recognises the progress Carden Park Hotel has made in demonstrating its commitment to the environment. Judged by the Environment Agency, consideration was given to the positive impact the hotel had made and its future development plans. Examples of action that helped the hotel win the award included using sustainable materials, energy saving initiatives, reducing waste and supporting the local economy and community.

In praise of the hotel, the Judge said, “For such a big business, we were impressed by the way the hotel went the extra mile, with staff engaged and interested in green issues. They were looking for opportunities to go green and therefore gave it more than just lip service and could definitely inspire other businesses to take the issue on.”

Hamish Fergsuson, General Manager of Carden Park, commented, “We are continually improving our practices and standards with regard to the environment and we are delighted to be recognised for our efforts. This accolade is a testament to the commitment of our staff, particularly the Estates Team and Maintenance team who spearhead many of our initiatives.”

The annual awards recognise and reward quality achievement within tourism. Carden Park Hotel will now be entered into the North West Regional Tourism Awards which take place in October.
