Local charity receives £75,000 cheque

Save The Family

Monday 7th July, 2008

Chester based Save the Family has been thrilled to receive a major funding award from The Morgan Foundation.

Edna Speed MBE, founder of homelessness charity Save the Family was the recipient of a cheque for £75,000 this morning from Steve Morgan OBE, Chairman and founder of The Morgan Foundation. The funds were raised at The Morgan Foundation inaugural Charity Golf Classic 2008 at Carden Park Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort in May.

A sell out event, the golf day and gala dinner featured a host of famous faces from the sporting and entertainment world. The level of generosity and support from sponsors, celebrities and participants enabled over £100,000 to be raised for two very deserving causes – Save the Family and Wolverhampton Multicare.

The money will help the Save the Family, which provides accommodation and support to homeless families from throughout the North West and North Wales, to develop a new family accommodation facility on the outskirts of Chester.

The £3.6 million Cotton Hall Farm development at Cotton Edmunds, near Christleton, will include 26 family accommodation units as well as education and training facilities.

The Morgan Foundation has been a longstanding supporter of Save the Family and has funded the ‘Morgan Mews’ properties at the charity’s family centre at Plas Bellin Hall in Flintshire and a gift of a 17 seater minibus.

Edna stated: “The Morgan Foundation has offered major support to the charity over many years and as a result the charity has been able to expand and develop in a way that would have been impossible without Steve Morgan’s commitment and underpinning of a number of projects. We value the love and help of this Foundation and the charity will always be mindful of their generosity.”

Steve Morgan added: “As always, it is wonderful to give our support to such a worthwhile cause as Save the Family. Homelessness is an issue that could affect anybody and without organisations like theirs, which are tragically few and far between, there would be thousands more families in despair with nowhere to go and no one to turn to.”
