Entrepreneur Awards Finalists
23 Finalists through to the final round of judging in the 2008 Morgan Foundation Entrepreneur Awards
The Morgan Foundation today announced the shortlist of finalists in The 2008 Entrepreneur Awards.
Initially created to encourage entrepreneurs in the North West and now the Midlands area, the Awards are designed to find a new generation of role models – whether they are new businesses, young entrepreneurs or social enterprises. This year the Awards also invited applications from people or businesses that have overcome obstacles and succeeded 'against all odds’.
Established by Steve Morgan, Chairman of The Morgan Foundation and Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, the Awards, now in their second year, have been extended to encompass businesses and entrepreneurs from the Wolverhampton area as well as from Merseyside, West Cheshire, Shropshire and North Wales. With three new categories introduced for 2008, entrants were given the opportunity to compete across five categories for a major boost to their enterprise.
Over 130 entries were received for the Awards, split over the following categories: Best New Business, Best Young Entrepreneur, Best Business providing Economic and Social Contribution to the Region, Best Entrepreneurial Social Enterprise or Charity and Against All Odds.
In total, 23 finalists survived the rigorous first round of judging and they will now present to a panel of distinguished judges during the first week of November. The winners will be announced at a gala awards evening on 20th November at Carden Park Hotel near Chester.
The Awards offer over £150,000 of prizes, made up of professional services and £105,000 cash. The professional services have been provided by the main sponsor Barclays and event partners Deloitte, Mace and Jones, Insider Media and Your Space plc.
John Powell, Chairman of the judging panel and Corporate Director - North of England for Barclays Commercial Bank commented: “This year we received a diverse range of applications from organisations across the region. As well as many excellent businesses we were also delighted to see the number of outstanding individuals who are contributing to the economic and social success of the region. We are looking forward to a fantastic awards evening where we can showcase the talents of the winners.”
